Iglesia Metodista de Cacocum

Background:

In the 1960’s, under Castro, the Methodist Church in Cuba was separated from the Florida Annual Conference, but was kept alive by a small contingent of faithful believers. In the 1990’s Cuba declared itself a secular country and religious restriction and pressure relaxed. In 1997, the Florida Annual Conference formed the Methodists United in Prayer (MUIP) Covenant with the Cuban Methodist Church resulting in “Sister Church” relationships. MUIP helped facilitate an explosion in growth amongst Methodist churches. However, restrictions have once again become a reality for God seeking Cubans.

Purpose

The Cuban people face many challenges each day including government limitation and oversight, poverty, hunger, and shortages of necessities.

Our two churches pray for one another and our pastors have regular weekly communications. Financial assistance helps to underwrite the pastor’s salary, building maintenance, etc. Most recently we provided a gift of a generator and new audio/video equipment to ensure that they can experience quality worship without loss of power.

In 2017, a dozen First Church members visited our sister church and spent time there getting to know their pastor, his family, and church members. We provided supplies of clothing, OTC medications, and an electric organ. This trip strengthened our relationship and provided further insight into the struggles of our Cuban siblings.

"Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God"

-Hebrews 13:16

How To Participate

Prayer is first and foremost. We also rely on financial donations to continue to support our sister church. Designate “Cuba” on your gift and it will be directed to the fund that we use to support them. Fill out a mission interest form for more information.
